I was asked once: "Why can't we make money with our hobbies?" It was a rhetorical question but it made me think. Why not? There are pretty good reasons to do that in the first place. The first reason is that people know a lot and can tell us a lot about their hobbies. Hey can make their own site and fill it with information relative to their hobbies. The second reason is that if you have a certain hobby, probably there are other people that have the same hobby and they will be interested in your information. Just imagine, if there are several hundred thousands or even millions of interested people! You will get a huge audience. The third reason is that people with hobbies usually are ready to spend much more money on their hobbies than on something else. That means your audience will be ready to pay. The only thing you have to do is to start the business. Besides, when you like something, you are ready to work without money, with patience and for fun. That is why you have more chances to succeed with your home business.
Whether that can be any hobby is a difficult question. Let us see what information we can find in the net. For example, if you are interested in high technologies and you wanted to know whether is possible to get enough subscribers. The success of your future site shall depend on: information demand through search engines and author's dedication. You should check how often people is searching "technologies", "high technologies", "new technologies" etc. So how can you make money with your high technology site? Of course, it will be easier to do that with advertising. Since your site is not going to be developed in the beginning, you can register in Google Adsense. When your site becomes more or less famous, direct advertisers will come. What can you sell? That's up to you. It depends on the interests of your audience and your opportunities. You should think about an info product, some kind of paid subscription, you can provide some services' whatever you think is going to be the best choice.
As for some other topics, if you are interested and want to make some money on them, you should evaluate your chances the same way. The first thing you need to do is to find out how often people is searching info (the words and phrases you are interested in). This way you may have an idea how your site is going to be visited. The next thing you have to do is probably to find some sites that provide similar information. Go through them and find out their weak sides so you can improve your site and make it better. If there are no searches close to your topic and there are no similar sites, you should not give up. That does not mean you don't have chances. You may become the first one with such a site and that will be even better!
